I would rank this book as a young adult read although I'm a grandparent and enjoyed it very much. You just have to suspend reality because there are a lot of premises in this book that fall flat when you compare them with true science. Like most of the other reviewers, I didn't care much for technology that booted up just fine on batteries that were almost dead after 63 million years. But, I just plowed right on past those points and found I enjoyed the story just fine--enough that I would be eager to read more sequels as Saigg and gang seek out more of their distant relatives in remote star systems.Product details

What a story so happy there was a sequel to this wonderful family if dinosaurs.
Having loved the original, I am very pleased with this sequel and look forward to a third. This one seems to clear the air between the US and returning ancestors. Perhaps in the next book they can start working together, save the ancients colony and do some serious exploring. I'm looking forward to it.
The author has written a book exploring the possibilities that exist for us as a people, for the universe, and for other species in a way that is both humorous, and while apparently light-hearted, quite serious about the questions we face as humans. The point being that people are untrusting and fearful when faced with the unknown, and presume the worst possible outcome. The characters in this book have advanced beyond earth standards, and are superior in technological ability to our present human development. The military and politicians become embroiled in an aggressive attempt to control and manage power. At high levels of government, people with unbridled ambition choose to refuse offers to share. The story moves forward with threats and politics getting in the way of knowledge and cooperation. This is a very human story, although much of it is about non-human characters, called "souls" in the book. There is a lot of technology discussed in this book, and the author seems very facile with terms and capabilities of advanced technology. An interesting read, and one that will stick with the reader long after the novel is finished.
This is not as long as the first book and I personally did not think it was as good. I would have like for it to be longer, but still a good SiFi book.
Been waiting for - a long time - for this author to release the sequel to Ancient Birthright - which was great. I'm a good way unto this next part of the story and loving it. Mr. Knight is a wonderful science fiction author who melds high-tech and humor like no one else!
Loved this book! I love the characters. The youngsters are a hoot!
The bad guys are bad but violence always backfires!
